Whilst camped at Cradle Mountain, after a big day of hiking, we checked the weather, and discovered that this night was our only clear night for the next week. I was just resting when I received an Aurora alert for Tasmania! I checked outside and sure enough it was clear, so in a mad rush, I packed my photo gear, got dressed again and drove the truck carefully up to Dove Lake. I managed to avoid all of the wildlife on the way, and got up there right as the sky was lighting up.
It was 0 degrees, and as I jogged to the lakes edge, I remember asking myself why I did this to myself!
Luckily I persevered, and within minutes I was capturing this extremely rare sight, an Aurora Australis over Dove Lake, with Cradle Mountain in the background (and without clouds blocking it!) -

This blue hour artwork of Tamworth, NSW captured from Oxley Scenic Lookout was one I was surprised about. I wasn't as focused as normal this night as we had just arrived in Tamworth earlier in the afternoon after a stressful couple of days getting our caravan stuck and then unstuck, but Amanda & I both needed to get out and do something we love, and we are so glad we did.
Not only did we enjoy this amazing lookout, a warm summer evening and capture this artwork, we met another travelling family and immediately became friends. This then led to a wonderful couple of days meeting up and enjoying all the Tamworth das to offer. Another thing we love about being on the road exploring and capturing, making life long friends and memories. -
