This small unnamed creek in the Dorrigo National Park crosses the path as you walk down to the Crystal Shower Falls. I wasn't satisfied with the image from the pathway, so scrambled very carefully down to this spot, where I could see the fallen logs crossing the stream. I spent about half an hour here taking images trying to find the best composition. I love the contrasts between the lush vegetation and the brown of the riverbed.

Wild Cattle Creek in the Dorrigo area of New South Wales. This is a small picnic area we came across as we drove through the area. I headed for a walk down the creek to see what I could find, and came across this magical spot where the water flows over this small rock ledge. This artwork was created in the Nundle State Forest, near Tamworth, NSW. I had only just said to Amanda that I wanted to go for a drive down one of the side tracks when some strangers came and asked us for help with getting their car out of a bit of trouble. The kind and adventurous people that we are, said of course. We were on our way back out of the forest and we came across this beautiful scene, I couldn't help but stop for the capture. This one entailed me to sit up on top of our truck to get the height I was after, and it worked!

I spent about 45 minutes capturing this amazing spot and ended up with two amazing images, a vertical composition and this one, a landscape panorama image that shows the meandering creek flowing under the bridge of the track. My eyes are drawn to the beautiful mossy rocks and the large tree with roots stretching down to the water. The warm summer light filtering through the trees above gives vibrance and a delicate touch to the green ferns in this image.

This image was created while on a spontaneous stop at Somersby Falls on the way home after spending the weekend in Sydney for Vivid. We had a bit of time before we had to be home and we hadn’t been to Somersby Falls in a number of years. We also knew with the recent rainfall the falls should have been flowing nicely. So, we decided to drop in.
I forgot to charge my batteries for my camera after being at Vivid the night before so I knew I didn’t have many shots left. I scouted the location back and forth looking for the composition I was imaging.
To get to this spot, I had to walk along the slippery rock edge and try not to get my shoes and socks soaked, climb up and perch myself on the edge of a boulder. I struggled to get my tripod to steady itself due to the legs needing to be at such different lengths and positions. The amount of water cascading was perfect for this long exposure and the shine on the tree trunk brings another element of life to the image. I love the varying colours, shapes and layers of the rock shelf which forms the waterfall.
We were the only ones here at this particular time and we felt a world away from any civilisation, which was such a contrast to the previous days in Sydney.

This creek in the beautiful Mossman Gorge near Port Douglas is the absolute embodiment of beauty in nature.
We recently went to this location during the wet season, and this creek is a solid 3km walk through the rainforest to get to. By the time we reached it, I took about 3 photo's then couldn't stand it any more, stripped off and went for a swim! The water was seriously chilly and extremely refreshing.

An Unfortunate Event

Four wheel driving around Adelaide River, late in the afternoon we reached our goal, Adelaide River itself, a place with a river crossing that my mate described as a "tropical paradise".
We reached the spot, and he was not wrong, the river gently flows over shallow rocks creating a continuous gentle flowing sound, and the canopy above took out most of the heat of the afternoon.
My mate actually fell asleep on the roof racks whilst I was taking this photo!
This Hilux has obviously had a bad time of it crossing the river when it had a lot more power to it, I doubt it will last another wet season.

Gloucester Tops is an incredible location close by to the famous Barrington Tops National Park. You feel so far removed from everything, by the time you climb the ever twisting dirt road to the top of the mountain. Finding such a diverse range of natural environment here is a little surreal. One minute you are in a cloud ash forest, the next a lush tree fern lined stream, and the river up here is the icing on the cake.
So much water heading so quickly down, as it was blocked by this ancient tree that had fallen across the falls.
